Words are so interesting, especially when you look at their etymology.
Take the word ‘branding’ for example. Merriam Webster's definition reads: the promoting of a product or service by identifying it with a particular 'brand'. Don'cha love that? Describe the word with part of the word?
OK...so what's 'brand'? This is where it gets fun. The first definition is: a mark made by burning with a hot iron to attest manufacture or quality or to designate ownership. Clearly in the past, this used for livestock, and you’d see it on the side of wooden boxes. But today, there’s a bit more involved.
While ‘branding’ has come a long way since the days of hot pokers, it still relates to ownership, but more so, it's how you want your company represented. When people see your logo, print material, your storefront or online presence, they get a certain impression or feeling…a perception of what your business is and who ‘you’ are.
That’s why BRANDING is so important.
